Plot
Edward, a civil servant, flees from his fiancée Molly on their wedding day in Rangoon, 1917. Molly, determined to marry, amused by his escape, follows him across Asia..
This film has no plot, no identifiable characters, and no compelling story
Official submission by Portugal for the ‘Best International Film’ category of the 97th Academy Awards in 2025.. I’ve never felt so annoyed at the cinema, but I stayed to the end out of respect for the other viewers.
It evokes no feeling beyond a deep sense of irritation and wasted time
The comedic moments are not funny at all (seriously, why does anyone laugh at women cursing men? Boomer humour).
It is very oddly paced and, frankly, boring
Some scenes are nice (if you’ve never been to Asia) and I must appreciate the use of traditional Asian music. However, it’s not enough to make up for how poorly structured and pointless the film is.
